How Elizabeth Proctor's Character Shapes The Crucible Elizabeth Proctor has a mind boggling job in Arthur Millerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Crucible,â⬠the 1953 play that utilizes the Salem Witch Trials of the 1600s to censure the witch-chase for socialists during the ââ¬Å"Red Scareâ⬠of the 1950s. Mill operator could have composed Elizabeth Proctor, wedded to the two-timing John Proctor, to be disdainful, vindictive or desolate, even. Rather, she rises as the uncommon character, but a defective one, in ââ¬Å"The Crucibleâ⬠with an ethical compass. Her uprightness impacts her better half to turn into a progressively devout man. The Proctors in The Crucible Despite the fact that Elizabeth Proctor is held, slow to gripe and obedient, the same number of Puritan ladies were depicted, she thinks that its excruciating that her significant other submitted infidelity with their ââ¬Å"strikingly beautifulâ⬠and shrewd youthful worker, Abigail Williams. Prior to the undertaking, Elizabeth had experienced a couple of difficulties in her marriage. A discernable separation among Elizabeth and John can be felt during the main demonstrations of the play. ââ¬Å"The Crucibleâ⬠content never uncovers Elizabethââ¬â¢s genuine emotions about the shocking connection among John and Abigail. Has she pardoned her better half? Or then again does she simply endure him since she has no other plan of action? Perusers and crowd individuals can't be certain. However, Elizabeth and John carry on delicately to one another, notwithstanding the way that she sees him with doubt and he suffers fits of blame and resentment regarding his ethical weaknesses. Elizabeth as Moral Compass of The Crucible In spite of the anxiety of their relationship, Elizabeth fills in as Proctorââ¬â¢s still, small voice. At the point when her significant other encounters disarray or irresoluteness, she prompts him onto the way of equity. When the manipulative Abigail sparkles a witch-chase in their locale, of which Elizabeth turns into an objective, Elizabeth urges John to end the witch preliminaries by uncovering reality with regards to Abigailââ¬â¢s evil, dangerous ways. Abigail, all things considered, needs to have Elizabeth captured for rehearsing black magic since she despite everything has affections for John Proctor. He should conclude whether to dishonestly admit to black magic or dangle from the hangman's tree. As opposed to settle on the choice alone, he looks for his wifeââ¬â¢s counsel. While Elizabeth doesnââ¬â¢t need John to pass on, she doesnââ¬â¢t need him to submit to the requests of a crooked society either. How Important Elizabeths Words Are in The Crucible Given her capacity in Johnââ¬â¢s life and that sheââ¬â¢s one of barely any ethically upstanding characters in ââ¬Å"The Crucible,â⬠itââ¬â¢s fitting that her character conveys the last lines of the play. plato aristotle Essay - 871 Words
In these sessions, I have gained a better understanding of Aristotle and Platoââ¬â¢s ideas and theories. Particularly, I have a specific interest in Aristotle and the notion of the two extremes and to aim towards the ââ¬Å"gray or middle of the roadâ⬠. I also have an interest in Platoââ¬â¢s theory regarding the just and unjust and the repercussions of their actions. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Aristotle is trying to achieve that single point in which life is the best of both worlds. He attempts to define an obtainable median point in life. This idea sounds more like the resume of a public official. I believe that is why Aristotle says that the ultimate virtue is that of political science. The public officialsââ¬â¢ job is to represent the masses. It isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The one question that I have is why do people choose to live that way ? Do they not see the benefits of patience? How does Aristotle address these issues? Secondly, we must alter our expectations according to the field of study. ââ¬Å"[W]e must not expect the same degree of accuracy in every department of study, but only so much precision as corresponds with the nature of the particular subjectâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Sterba, 59-60). This statement fascinates me. The area of study I am in is Mechanical Engineering Technology. That quote from the text could not be more prevalent in Engineering today. When performing engineering equations, the degree of accuracy cannot be carried out longer than that in which the data was recorded. If one does, the end result would most likely be an error due to rounding. This, too, also applies to the initial data recorded. We must be sure that this information is correct, as this will lead to failure or an error in the final point or answer. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; With regards to Plato, I find that in The Republic, when discussing the just and unjust, we find ourselves between two evils. In the text, it asks what do we determine to be better, doing unjust things with no repercussions or to just things. In some way or another, we find ourselves at a cross road when faced with certain circumstances. Do we react unjust or just? Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents
Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are subject to savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different. Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the sense that Darwin ââ¬Å"insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the ââ¬Å"stamp of [its] lowly originâ⬠was quite ineffaceableâ⬠(12). It offers capacity to see all the human rights, social rights, responsibilities and commitments towards nation. Students can't in any capacity, shape or frame get everything of noteworthy worth when they leave schoo l yet; the inclination to keep addressing for the duration of their lives ought to dependably consume brilliant. Discussion The Knowledge, Values, Attitudes and Skills of Students Leaving School after 10 Years of Schooling: In the education procedure, understudies ought to be offered a wide assortment of approaches to learn, among which they could pick or with which they could analyze. They don't need to learn diverse things a similar way. They ought to learn at a beginning time of "tutoring" that figuring out how to learn is to a great extent their obligation with the assistance they look for however that isn't forced on them. The target of training is learning, not instructing. The point of school training isn't to take out obliviousness (Yamada, Fujikawa Pangeni, 2015). It is a delusion to believe that each and everything in life can be learned from ten years of schooling. John Dewey, an American philosopher and founder of the philosophical movement propagated the belief that a democratic society of informed and enquired enquiries was the best means of the promotion of human interest. In his educational theories, My Pedagogic Creed (1897), The school and society (1990) and Experience and Education (1938) Dewey claimed that learning and education both are social and interactive procedures, thus a school itself is a social institution where social reforms should take place. Additionally, he believed that students thrive in an environment where they are only allowed to interact with the curriculum and experience it. It is thus important for the students to get an opportunity to take active part in their own learning. According to his theories, the importance of education is not only for the purpose of gaining content knowledge but for a scope to learn to live (Yamada, Fujikawa Pangeni, 2015). He proposed that the concept of education should not concentrate only on gaining pre-determined set of skills but on the realization of utilizing those set of skills with ones capability and potential. In his work The Child and the Curriculum Dewey pointed out the practice of preset curriculum that focuses only on the subject matter to be taught in school which let the child to remain imma ture (Ladd Sorensen, 2017). According to him, education system in school should practice an effective way of implementing the curriculum. Students in the school should get experience of relating studies and information to prior experiences so that they can deepen the connection with the new subject matter taught to them and gets a thorough understanding of the context. In his other works on education and school, Dewey suggested that school should experience a balance between distribution of knowledge and consideration of the students experience and interest. Dewey became the famous proponents of the hands-on learning education and experience (Wiggins, 1989). Problem based learning (PBL) or experimental learning models were initially proposed by the philosopher for the school learning methodology to pertain learning and experience through active enquiry. In his works, Dewey not only suggested the possible measures and learning ways the school should opt for the better future and understanding of the students but also the role of the teacher in school. Throughout the decade, education system has been all about providing students in school with limited set of skills for acquiring a particular job. Works of Dewey provided some of the noteworthy examples of the attempt to train students with both contemporary education system and also teacher training skills to produce efficient and demand specific workforce. Dewey in his works. "The School and Society" and "Popular government of Education" asserted that as opposed to getting ready nationals for moral interest in the public arena, schools develop uninvolved understudies by means of emphasis on authority of certainties and teaching of bodies (Grossman, 2015). As opposed to getting ready understudies to be intelligent, self-sufficient and moral creatures equipped for touching base at social realities through basic and tyrant work and political structures, debilitate the quest for individual and public enquiry and see higher learning as a restraining infrastructure of the foundation of training. Education stifles individual autonomy where learners are taught about knowledge transmission in one direction from the expert to learner. In his work, the philosopher re-imagined the way the learning procedure should take place and the particular role the teacher should play in that process (Mondal, Saha Baidya, 2015). Students in their school should be in hand of responsible teachers who can successfully cultivate the attributes addressed in the school curriculum. Many people think that educations sole purpose is to train students for work by providing them with a limited set of skills and information for a particular job. According to the various philosophical theories in education of schooling, it is the responsibility of both the school and a teacher as a workforce and provider of social services to propagate social and psychological goods which can lead to present and upcoming social progress. Education serves as an immediate purpose and the present society lacks the sufficient production of skills, intelligence and character. According to Dewey, it is the sole responsibility of the teacher in the school to ignite them in the students so that they can efficiently join whatever industrial or economical civilization awaits them after they leave schooling (Gathmann, Jrges Reinhold, 2015). The pr ofession of the classroom educator is o deliver the insight, aptitude and character inside every understudy with the goal that the law based group is made out of residents, who can thin, do and act shrewdly and ethically. A student must have an energy for information and a scholarly interest in the materials and techniques they are being instructed for being fruitful in their life. Jeff Santos Essays - Ethics, Criminal Law, Law, Codes Of Conduct
Jeff Santos 2/12/2018 Western Civilization Prof. Lurie Lex Talionis The Law of Reciprocity" Lex talionis is a principle code that is found in the Babylonian law that says "whereby a punishment resembles the offense committed in kind and degree." It was thought that if the society was not abided by this law, then people would always look to seek revenge on those who hurt them. At times, it would lead to someone's death or destruction of one's family. That is if and only if the two were within the same social status. Due to all of this, Lex talionis is considered or interpreted as Hammurabi's (1792-1750 BC) favorite line "an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth". Hammurabi was one of the kids during the First Babylonian Dynasty. Lex talionis also follows the law of exact reciprocity and an example of this is if someone was to go to kill another person, then the criminal will be punished by having his or her life taken in return for killing the other. This can also be interpreted as "law of retaliation". That being said, a death does not always follow another death. As lon g as the retaliation is very minimal in the crime, basically anything is fine. For instance, instead of a punishment leading to another death, the criminal will pay a sum valued of the life he took and move on with his life. Obviously, these types of cases are more likely to occur as the modern day proceeds, where "an eye for an eye" becomes obsolete. Although precise punishment was the preferred way back in the Mesopotamian Era, "an eye for an eye" was not always the correct style of going about it. In my opinion there should have been better forms of reciprocity instead of dealing with crimes with more crimes. However, I do agree that punishment for a crime is a must, but they should vary depending on the severity and the circumstances of the crime itself. While lots may think that Lex talionis will be there control to mellow out the crime rates, it can also establish fear into the society where any little thing can be punishable to the full extreme that the law enforces. To add, a person in power may also take matters into their own hands and take actions as they please. Lex talionis has an extremely thin line that does not give you much course of action after a crime is committed. There should be some type of flexibility in the level of crimes and punishment. Does murder and stealing or lying have the same punishment as eac h other? Murder and stealing are two totally different crimes so where the line in the sand should be drawn? In most cases the line was not drawn but for me all crimes should be judged based on the severity of the crime and the circumstances of punishment should vary. Adding on top types of crimes, according to the Bible a lie is a sin which would mean that lying would be a possible serious punishment. In order to prevent one from telling a lie is to simply cut his or her tongue off. Everyone has lied at some point of their life so in that case, everyone in the village would be walking around without a tongue. Another thing you have to think about is what if it was a child performing the act of lying or stealing. In the case of stealing, sometimes they do not might not have known any better. So what does this mean? Do they get their hand cut off just like the rest? The child has done nothing to be put into the situation but it was simply forced into it because of the society it lives in. In the child's case, instead of mutilation, a better option may be to return what was taken. In my opinion you should punish the child with some type of work because usually children have a low work ethic and they do not want to work for anything especially whe n they do not get anything in return. After all, a boy or girl with a disability will do no good for anyone.

Cable vs DSL essays
Cable vs DSL essays While the computer industry continues to grow, the need for higher speed internet access increases. Games and digital media both have the capability to be played over the internet. To perform decently, a higher speed internet connection is needed. Two types of high speed internet connections available to home users are cable modems and a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). Cable modems run off of the pre-existing coaxial cable that is already wired in most homes for TV. DSL transfers data through existing phone lines and does not tie up the telephone line used for talking. They both are a lot faster than normal phone lines, but there are many variables to each that determine which may be better. These consist of the speed and reliability, the price for the setup and service, and the availability of the service. Cable modem service is a reasonable choice for a high speed internet connection. This service is usually controlled by the local cable company that runs the cable TV service. In Frederick, Adelphia is the company that distributes this service. The speed of an internet service is measured by how many bits per second it can transfer over the connection to the provider. Normal measurements are either in kilobits per second (kbps) or Megabits per second (Mbps). A kilobit means one thousand bits and a mega bit means one million. Cable modem speeds can range from 512 kbps to two Mbps download and 128 to 384 kbps upload. Customers using cable modems in the same area, usually share the same line the data travels through to the service provider. When there are many customers in the area that use the cable modem service, it can impact the performance of the cable modem. The transfer rates may fluctuate between 256 kbps to two Mbps. The price of the service can be pretty reasonable too. The average price per month for the service is $30.00 to $50.00. The most expensive part about getting a cable mode ...

Computer science and information technology major personal statement Essay
Computer science and information technology major personal statement - Essay Example I noticed that the lock was very convenient since we never had to bring the key again. I started to dream about owning a smart house where electronics will do everything for us, such as tasks scheduling, voice commanding, decisions making, etc. Since coming to the U.S., I have seen people using iPhones to dim lights in their houses. I realized my dream is actually achievable, yet even that did not seem like enough. I want houses that are even ââ¬Å"smarterâ⬠, and I wish one day everyone can own one of these houses. I want to customize my own smart house instead of those that exist already. Looking back on the past, I realize t that my dream had become more of a reality when I got to use computers.à The first time I used a computer I use it to play games only. I started to play a Japanese web game (livly) in 2005. By chance the game allowed me to customize my own homepage with HTML. I started to write simple HTML for my page. Eventually, I spent more time exploring the World Wide Web and discovered that there are programming languages for web pages which can do more than a markup language. I managed to read a book about PHP4 and MYSQL which I borrowed from the library. Although I did not have enough knowledge to understand everything, I read through the whole book and tried my best to understand all of the content. At the same time, my achievement in writing simple Visual Basic code in high school encouraged me even more to explore the computer field.à In 2009 I had a very special experience. I participated in a regional championship of the Worldskills Competition in Office and I was glad that I had learnt a lot in the field of software application from the training course I had taken. I was allowed to explore Microsoft Office at a deeper level by implementing VBA and the built-in library functions in Microsoft Excel. A year after I participated in another competition with participants from Hong Kong and Macau. I got a chance

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Essay Example for Free
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Essay The research gives the patient as well as the doctors and other healthcare professionals the education to be able to make the best decisions possible with treatments for each different individual as well as the support of the Government in this research. ââ¬Å"The economics of medical product development determines how pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies establish their funding priorities. According to industry estimates, it takes an average of $800 million and 10-15 years to develop a new drug, medical device, or biologic and bring it to the marketâ⬠[ (Resnick, 2003) ] Scope The overall scope of PhRMA is to do research in improving the quality of healthcare and how to do this. With the ultimate goal being patients receiving health care that is most efficient. Making sure that the research that is done is prioritized by the needs of the patients as well as society as a whole, having the research cover not only specific treatments costs and savings, but the costs of all healthcare treatments as a whole. As well as making sure that all technologies are used appropriately in all of healthcare. Design The design of PhRMA is to make sure that the research that is done is quality research. The data needs to be sufficient in nature as well as having the studies that are done show both the opportunities to improve as well as the strengths to improve upon. Making sure that the research that is done is up to date in this ever changing field so that it is providing the best results possible. The research needs to be both of a broad nature as well as a specifically direct nature, covering aspects that are important to society and the patients. Considering both economic issues and how well patients can be productive members of society, doing additional research to get patients to that point if they are not. Application PhRMA needs to make sure that the research that they are doing shows that not all patients are equal in the needs that they have medically and that if the research is not done on a personal level and done instead on a population level then the results will not show the individuals needs. In short, research that is done on a broader spectrum is only one way that can help people and the doctors to make an informed decision on care. With all of the technology that is out in the world of healthcare people needs to be informed on the other options that they may have for treatment. The government research should consider a balance in communicating the findings of its research. Giving access to peer reviewed results so that treatment decisions are well rounded before a decision is made. ââ¬Å"Government decisions related to the funding and conduct of health outcomes research should be made through open, transparent procedures that ensure appropriate and timely involvement of stakeholders such as patients, health care professionals and medical researchers on issues such as proposed research goals, study designs and communication of study results. â⬠[ (Resnick, 2003) ] In this communication, keeping in mind that all people can react differently to different treatments making sure to keep the needs of the patients as well as the value in mind. Discussion The article that I read was very interesting. I did not realize with the complication of research, especially with in the healthcare industry exactly how much of it really does affect the economy. Giving patients the variety in the different treatments that they receive can have a positive effect on the economy. It can over time change pricing (costs inputs), and with additional research that is constantly done on the variety of the treatments over time will help to create medical advances over time.à In the mission statement of PhRMA it states ââ¬Å"To conduct effective advocacy for public policies that encourage discovery of important new medicines for patients by pharmaceutical and biotechnology research companies.

Music and Media Can Be Detrimental to Children :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays
Music and Media Can Be Detrimental to Children Parents will argue that other people are the reason their children are violent and usually take absolutely none of the blame, when in reality they should be taking a lot of the blame for violence among children. I believe media as a whole, including television, radio, movies, video games, news, etc, can be very detrimental to society and leads to a lot of this violence among children with which we are dealing. I was always taught what goes in your head has to eventually come out, so shouldn't you put in only good stuff? "Critics claim that music negatively affects teenagers by repeatedly exposing them to themes such as Satanism, substance abuse, murder, suicide, and sexual violence, which may be heavily reinforced and normalized by the frequency of their portrayal" ("Youth and Violent Music"). I think there are too many television shows that run between the hours of three and five in the afternoon, which is when most children watch television, that make violence their main theme. Also during those hours, there are music video countdowns playing on just about every channel to which you flip. The only things kids learn when they watch these videos is how to abuse their wives, how to shoot a gun at someone, how to violently deal with a bully at school, how to dress so sexy that all the boys will like them, etc. Kids idolize anyone on television, especially if they're a popular songwriter or singer. Most parents know that children imitate whatever they see and hear, so wouldn't you think if parents let them watch these over-sexy and violent videos that their children are going to want to look and act just like what they're watching on television? "Several major rap artists have been charged with violent crimes in real life, and many worry that their actions seeming ly condone the violent messages in their music. Their celebrity status also serves to glamorize their violent behavior" ("Youth and Violent Music"). There are many cases dealing with the death of one or more children due to them "trying-out" a move they watched on television that "look real cool". Even if there was only one case, that would be one too many for me not to think we had taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Administrative Theories in Public Administration Essay
I have never thought that administrative theories in Public Administration has been established back in 1800 with theorist who have discovered or developed and now has been part of the system of the Philippine government. The earliest contributors to our understanding of management theory included practicing managers as well as social scientist. More recent theorist has tended to be academic or management consultants. The early theorist can be divided into 2 main groups ââ¬â the practicing managers such, as Taylors and Fayol and the social scientists, such as Mayo and Mc Gregor. Meet the Mr. Taylor, the theorist of Scientific Management. Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856-1915), one of the early practical manager-theorist, born in Boston, Massachusetts, spent the greater part of his life working on the problems of achieving greater efficiency on the shop-floor where he manages. The solution he came up with was based directly on his own experience at work, initially as a shop floor worker and later as a manager. He pioneers scientific management which includes: The systematic study of the relationships between and tasks to redesign the work for higher efficiency. Taylor sought to reduce the time a worker spent on each task by optimizing the way the task was done. Scientific Management Theory Organizations were seeking ways to better satisfy customer needs Machinery was changing the way goods were produced Managers had to increase the efficiency of the worker-task mix According to him, there are 4 Principles to increase efficiency that are: a. Study the way the job is performed now and determine new ways to do it. Gather detailed, time and motion information; try different methods to see which is best b. Codify the method into rules ââ¬â Teach to all workers c. Select workers whose skills match the rules set in step2 d. Establish a fair level of performance and pay for higher performance ââ¬â Workers should benefit from higher output But, Taylor recognizes that the measures he was proposing would appear to be more than just a new method ââ¬â they would be revolutionary. He stated that the outset that ââ¬Å"scientific managementâ⬠would require a complete mental revolution on the part of management and workers. Henry Fayol (1841-1924) ââ¬â father of modern management theory He divided industrial into 6 groups: technical, commercial, financial, security, accounting & managerial And formulated the 14 Principles of management which we are using it every day in our daily activities, allow me to enumerate them and somehow expand a little. Division of Labor ââ¬â allows for job specialization, Authority and responsibility ââ¬â Fayol noted firms can have too much specialization leading to poor quality and worker involvement. Unity of command ââ¬â employees should have one boss. Line of authority ââ¬â a clear chain from top to bottom of the firm. Centralization ââ¬â the degree to which authority rests at the very top. Unity of direction ââ¬â one plan of action to guide the organization. Equity ââ¬â treat all employees fairly in justice and respect. Order ââ¬â each employee is put where they have the most value. Initiative ââ¬â encourages innovation. Discipline ââ¬â obedient, applied, respectful employees needed. Remuneration of Personnel ââ¬â The payment system contributes to the success. Stability of nature ââ¬â long term employment is important. General interest over personal interest ââ¬â the organization takes precedence over the individual. Esprit de corps ââ¬â share enthusiasm or devotion to the organization. I have added here some of the theorist I researched which I consider to be worth sharing. Mary Parker ââ¬â an influential leader in early managerial theory. a. Suggested workers help in analyzing their jobs for improvements b. The worker knows the best way to improve the job c. If workers have the knowledge of the task, then they should control the task. The Hawthorne Studies It appears that the workers enjoyed the attention they received as part of the study and were more productive. Contingency Theory ââ¬â Assumes there is no one best way to manage The environment impact the organization and managers must be flexible to react to environmental changes The way the organization is designed, control systems selected, depend on the environment Conclusion As management theories evolved in centuries, the principles and ideas were never changed yet it has been a guiding value to those who are in public nor private service and to those who are employed and business people. Itââ¬â¢s amazing how they have passed on to many generations of people who wanted to learn and use the theories. The theories have been explicit in explanations and user-friendly, though there are theorists who have presented different thoughts on the earlier theorist but if we examine deeply, itââ¬â¢s all the same, only presented in different design. Before I end, I would just like to emphasize the last part of the theories because it speaks about our relationship with the environment and how we will relate environmental, Technological environments change rapidly so must managers.

The Popularity Of Healthy Food And Poor Nutrition - 777 Words
As the popularity of healthy eating and wellness increase, so does poorer nutrition in the consumer. ââ¬Å"Over thirty-five percent of adults and almost seventeen percent of children and adolescents are obese in the United States alone.â⬠(Pomeranz, 2013) With the increasing importance placed on healthy living and nutrition in America it raises the question, Why do so many people face diseases related to poor nutrition? Several factors are thought to be attributes to the correlation of the consumerââ¬â¢s perception of healthy food and poor nutrition. The most significant factor being the proliferation of claims on food packaging that gives a misleading picture of a products healthfulness. ââ¬Å"Current food labeling practices include both actual misbranding and permissible but potentially misleading claims about the healthfulness of processed and non-processed foods.â⬠(Pomeranz, 2013) Recent trends in marketing have shown an increased focus on naturalness claims on pr oducts with the hope of a higher consumer perception of naturalness. With the increase of concerns over health and wellness, consumers increasingly demand healthier and natural products. ââ¬Å"Recognizing the desire of consumers to demand natural products, companies explore the opportunity to exploit and build upon the idea of naturalness, and make it a point of differentiation in the marketplace.â⬠(Lunard Saintives, 2013) With such confusing food labels that undermine public health, How is it that the government allows suchShow MoreRelatedNutrition Labeling And Education Act962 Words à |à 4 Pagesactivity levels. Public School For Reconsider Publicly Funding Catholic...
Gabriella DeFina Mr. McGilly ENG 3U1 Friday, May 13, 2016 Time to Reconsider Publicly Funding Catholic Schools In Toronto alone there are about 800 schools of all grade levels. Within these 800, approximately 200 of them are catholic, thereby meaning about 25% of schools in Toronto are catholic. This poses the question: Why Catholics? Why does the government choose this religion to publically fund as an individual board? It could relate to back in the 1600s when the world was pretty much an Oligarchy of Theocracy. However, it is now the 21st century and the world does not work like that anymore. Although prevalent, Catholicism is not what it used to be. Nowadays, it is more a personal choice rather than the societal norm. Inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Why did our ancestors decide it was necessary to have religion and education as a combined learning environment? This can be traced back to the settlement of the British and French. This is an indication that Canada has always been a constant battle between protestant and catholic. Evidently, the British prevailed, this is the beginning of a country devoted to Christianity, or was. The world is not what it used to be, people do not surround their lives around religion anymore, especially youth. There are so many other pressing topics that are circulating the world today that religion is no longer in the spotlight. Therefore, since times are changing rapidly, education systems should follow. Realistically speaking, students are not as devoted Catholics as the Catholic school expects them to be. As someone who has been in a catholic school for my entire life, it is fair to say that my peers do not take the religious aspects of Catholic schools seriously. Mass has commonly become an excuse to skip and sleep in or do other assignments. Religion is considered a ââ¬Å"joke classâ⬠that students do not care about. Prayers on the announcements have become a great way to waste class time or it is simply boring. Catholics who created the initial catholic schools would be rolling in their graves at the disrespect students give to catholic schools. It is evide nt that religion no longer fits into the norm of schools. There should be a time and place

The Salary System and Its Weaknesses Assignment Example
Essays on The Salary System and Its Weaknesses Assignment The paper ââ¬Å"The Salary System and Its Weaknesses" is aà worthy example of a case study on finance accounting. The salary system has a number of weaknesses within it. This means that the salaries are not paid in commensuration with the experience and qualifications of an individual. As is clear from the example of Fred, the salary system lacks a proportionate basis and is an incomplete balance of the entire equation. This shall mean that the salary system should award the individuals with an understanding that they would be looked after well when it comes to their work basis and thus paid in line with what they have learned, and what they can offer to the organization in terms of their experience and more importantly, the results.2. As the director, how would you handle Fred?As the director, I would ask Fred to mend his ways and tell him to raise his concerns and queries with the human resources management department. If he has some salary reservations and as to why he was bei ng treated in an unfair manner when he compares himself with Bob, he should do this in writing and that too to the human resources management department. Handling Fred is indeed easy if the exact problem is understood right from the beginning and this, I shall do with a sense of purpose on my side. Fred should be told precisely what is expected of him and if he has something to say, the human resources management department is the right door to knock.à Case # 21. As Ezraââ¬â¢s manager, what would you do to retain him?As Ezraââ¬â¢s manager, I would make a concerted effort for him to stay as long as possible with the company because a lot has been done to impart him with the training that he eventually gained. I would ask for a raise in the salary that he receives as well as a higher position so that his job could be guaranteed and thus the program which was 10 months old and into the completion process could be analyzed in a proper fashion. I will make every effort to hold Ez ra back with the organization and thus do my bit in an amicable manner because Ezra is indeed needed by the organization.2. What changes would you recommend in the educational aid program? The changes that I would recommend for the educational aid program would comprise a clear cut policy to hold back employees so that they can deliver back to the organization and thus the entire process of giving back becomes a reasonably sound equation. Also, this would mean that the bond process would be ensured as it will bring in the desired results within the related settings. Asking them to sign a bond before they get into the educational aid program would sound a very reasonable option and one that can be looked forward to adoption on the part of the organization for the said educational aid programCase # 41. What actions. If any, should Jack Otto take?Jack Otto should undertake actions to make Bob realize where he has gone wrong in the last few months. Perhaps he needs to sit down with him a nd tell him exactly what the company demands of him and how his work productivity levels shall increase in the coming days. He must be told where he has gone wrong and what corrective methodologies he must adapt so that respect for work is increased in the future. Jack Otto has to hold himself back when it comes to empathizing with Bob because Bob is a decent enough worker yet had tardiness issues plaguing him all the same.2. Identify some ways that the company and Jack have contributed to the existing problem with Bob.The existing problem has come about because Bob was never asked about his tardiness and lazy work realms. If the evil was shot in the bud right from the very beginning, these matters would have never cropped up. It would be safe to suggest that the company has done a wrong here by allowing Bob to have his own ways because company discipline is indeed very pertinent to the overall working domains that are existent globally.Case # 61. How does this case illustrate the l ack of HR planning? There is a sound problem at hand here as far as the HR planning regimes are concerned. The HR should have known right from the beginning what kind of strategy it is adopting and what kind of incentives and salaries it needs to give to its own employees. This would have been the cornerstone of achieving success within the realms of the business which is being run. HR planning should have made the companyââ¬â¢s top heads know beforehand where the problem of salaries has come up from and how these could be removed earlier to have a safe and sound future for the company.2. What approaches could be used to recruit mechanics? The approaches that could be used to recruit mechanics comprise of a general mechanism under which there would be two tiers to look after their salary concerns. This would mean that the senior mechanics would be given more salaries than the junior ones. The two-tier approach would guarantee that the employees remain happy and contented with their jobs, and thus give in their best at all times.

Cognitive Development Of Psychology Click to Get Free Sample
Question: Describe about the Cognitive Development of Psychology? Answer: Cognitive Development: Cognitive development is the method of acquire aptitude and ever more difficult thinking and crisis solve capability from childhood to adulthood. Formerly thought that the infant lack of capability to believe or from the compound thoughts and remain without cognition until they learn verbal communication (Khalid, 2015). Cognitive development is the process of how an individual perceives, think and gain accepting of his or her world from first to last the interaction of inherent and learned factors. The areas were cognitive development focus on, that is information dispensation, intellectual, way of thinking language expansion and remembrance. A most important argument in cognitive development has been nature and nurture that is the query if cognitive development is primarily resolute by an individuals inborn qualities or by their personal understanding. On the other hand, it is now acknowledged by the expert that this is a fake dichotomy: there is overpowering proof from biological and behavioral science that from the initial points in expansion, genetic material interacts with actions and experience in the environment (Magid, Sheskin and Schulz, 2015). Core system of cognition recognized by psychologists: One of the core systems of cognition recognized by psychologists are the following: Biological theories In this field of environmental science and psychology, the assumption of development is used to improved and recognize how biological influence on enlargement network with the experience to shape in increasing traits (Pulsford, Lindenmayer and Driscoll, 2014). When this theory is applied to people the essential thought is that there is bias and constraint on the type of understanding the children easily and obtain during the growth as well as an aptitude to learn evolutionarily book and culturally specified knowledge. David Geary was set up the evolutionary educational psychology in a consequent area and represent to recognize how to evolve knowledge bias interact with the learning of evolutionarily novel information in school (Aguiar and Taylor, 2015). Behaviorist Perspective The main conjecture of this approach is that all behavior is cultured and formed by the environment (Robinson, 2014). Moreover, Behaviorist Perspective argues that in organize for psychology is to be scientific and it supposed to be focus on apparent behavior which can be independently measured rather than on things like cognitive process which can only be contingent. In behaviorist perspective there is two kind of conditioning theories that is classical conditioning and operant conditioning, were as classical condition tell us how to study behavior through organization (Duits et al., 2015) and operant condition tell us how the penalty of behavior reinforces (Johnes, 2014). Stages of Piagets theory: Piagets theory is the opinion that cognitive development occur in a sequence of four separate, worldwide stage and both of this are characterize by more and more complicated and conceptual level of consideration (Magid, Sheskin and Schulz, 2015). All this stage are occurring in same order and each of them are building on what was learning in the preceding stage (Viederyt, 2014). The following stage is: Sensor motor stage - In this stage infant and toddler are acquiring information all the way through sensory understanding and manipulate matter. Currently in expansion, a childs intelligence consists of their basic motor and sensory investigation of the world. Piagets supposed that rising is known as objective stability or objective loyalty, and also accepting that objective continue to exist, even when they cannot be seen, and a significant element at this point of expansion (Pulsford, Lindenmayer and Driscoll, 2014). Preoperational stages In these stage children learn through pretend play but still move violently with reason and pleasing the view point of other people. In this they also move violently through the ideal of reliability (Witt and Helmstaedter, 2015). Example suppose investigator may take a lump of clay and make it into two piece and both piece are equal in nature, they told a kid to choose one of them and here the one piece is shaped like a ball and other piece are shaped like a flat screen, while by choosing between two of them the preoperational will might select the flat one because flat one look like larger in shape (Pulsford, Lindenmayer and Driscoll, 2014). Concrete operational stage In this stage kid might think in more logical way, and their thinking might be inflexible. They inclined to resist with theoretical and imaginary concept. In this stage kid capacity turn into less self-centered and start to think about how others might feel and believe. In this concrete operational stage they start to recognize how their opinion is exclusive to them and everyone need to shares their feelings, thoughts and opinion. Formal operational stage - This is the last and final stage in Piagets theory, which occupy a raise in judgment, the capability to use deductive analysis and also indulgent in conceptual ideas. Importance of Piagets: Schema it is one of the most important concepts of Piagets theory of cognitive development. Take an example of Christmas festival which include money, winter, gold, Santa etc and other have different schema like holiday, birth of Jesus etc. yes, there is a schema for each and every kind of things like for occupation, events, yourself for others etc (West, 2014). Assimilation it is a process of incorporate fresh information into a pre-existing plan. Take an example of an old lady, an old lady see a youngster attack another person, she might incorporate aggression or offense into her teenager schema. After that she thinks that the teenager will applied her schema to them, and then it may show prejudice. Here a simple process used as an information which is already fit to pre-existing category (Pulsford, Lindenmayer and Driscoll, 2014). Accommodation - while approaching crossways a new thing for the first time, a child will do an effort and apply an old schema to the objective. Again here they use the same dog example here the child may have four leg in their dog schema and other compare with another animal like cat; cat might look like a dog that is absorption. While saying that this is cat instead of dog than it will be accommodation which is the newly information into another schema (Magid, Sheskin and Schulz, 2015). Adaptation The two part of adaptation is accommodation and assimilation which refer to the adapting our schemata to make a perfect model of the world we live in. It might be a kind of learning but it is totally opposite to the Behaviorist psychology that I classical and operational conditioning (Pulsford, Lindenmayer and Driscoll, 2014). Equilibrium In this Piaget recommended that human logically do their best to achieve a cognitive balance, here should be a balance between apply previous knowledge which is assimilation and altering schemata to the explanation for new information which is accommodation. Piaget also recommended that if a child schema is not fit to the reality then it might be a tension in his mind. While balancing accommodation and assimilation then the anxiety might reduce and can be carry on to higher levels of consideration and knowledge which is known as equilibration (Magid, Sheskin and Schulz, 2015). Evaluate Piagets theories of cognitive development with reference to the ideas of the other theorists. As we have learnt earlier that cognitive development is the study in psychology and neuroscience which focuses on the development of a child in terms related to processing of information, perceptual skills, conceptual resources, and all aspects which is related to cognitive psychology and development of brain compared to the point of view of an adult (Boom, 2004). Piagets theory is the broad study of human intelligence and nature. He believed that childhood plays a vital role in the growth of brain. A child learns by doing things and exploring them. Intellectual development theory focuses on adaptation, perception and manipulating the environment surrounding them. It is also known as the development stage theory. Cognitive development to Piaget was the developmental reorganization of the mental process which results from the environmental experience and biological maturation (Cook-Cottone, 2004). This theory can be more evaluated by stating that the theorist believed that all childre n build an understanding of the surroundings and then experiences them on their own, and then find out the difference of what they know already and what they discovered. The development is in the center of human where the language is dependent on the understanding and knowledge which is acquired through the cognitive development (Crafter, 2015). There is another theory on cognitive development given by Lev Vygotsky, who believed that the social community largely influences the thinking process of children. Here, psychological or technical tools are mainly responsible for this. Vygotsky proposed that in order to gain social acquaintance, individual must have to be aware about the way of communication. A small child will learn from their olders, how to communicate with using appropriate languages. As per Vygotsky this can be termed as More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). According to him, MKO can be teachers, older, instructor, parents, professional, etc. which excluded friends, children and computers. Here, mainly Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) approach has been placed. According to the first level, that is, Present Level of Development, it can be sent that the child has the capability to do something without taking assistance from any person. On the other hand, the level 2- or the Potential Level of Development explained that the child can potentially be competent enough to do something in line with the help of teachers and other people (Lao and Kuhn, 2002). There is a gap between Level 1 and Level 2 which by Vygotsky is described as the Zone of Proximal Development. He assumed that with the help from others a child will be able to potentially gain knowledge which is already held by them. Knowledge must be appropriate enough so that the child can grasp it (Kozulin, 2011). Both the theories, when evaluated and compared, offer extremely influential theories which had a strong impression with respect to the method of teaching children (Levykh, 2008). Evaluate evidence from studies of cognitive development and relate findings to theories of cognitive development Even though there is a rivalry between the two theorists with the competing theories. To evaluate the evidences from the studies of cognitive development and relate findings with it the following table will be of much help. The table shows the contrasts in both the theories: Piagets View Vygotskys view Learning Solitary Social Development is driven By conflict between stages By input from MKO and others Context Development is universal and stages are same irrespective of the context Development is different depending on the social and cultural context Knowledge Children attain knowledge by exploring themselves Children work with others to attain knowledge Stage Yes No Languages Role Thought drives language Language drives thought Speech Social speech becomes inner speech Egocentric speech becomes social speech Link Development comes first then learning Learning comes first than development The contrasts of the two theories are very competing. The theories are challenging broad and complexities of human nature. Now we would look in-depth of both the theories with respect to its findings and its evaluations. Findings and evaluations of Piagets theory: Piagets theory is based on numerous defined and rigid stages. What is the probability cognitive development will occur mechanically as the theory suggests? A child need to move to the next stage and a switch does not brush whereby moving onto another stage. There is contrary evidence which suggests some facts of the study are inaccurate. There was criticism that Piagets underestimated the ability of the children and infants. The procedure used to define the theory was highly criticized pointing that if children are incapable of cognitive functioning or Piagets methods were much complicated for a childs understanding (Saengpun, 2012). The theory had a high impact on teaching techniques all over and it stays as one of the vital developmental theories in the education till date. The theory gives framework to understand what may happen when children acquire particular cognitive knowledge. Findings and evaluations of Vygotskys theory: This theory emphasizes much on the social culture and interaction by which other facets of the development is missed. There is no extensive explanation for individual differences and developmental problems. The theory has huge implication on education which shows that how MKOs and adults can engage actively in helping the children reach their full potential. According to this theory it is found that children who work together in pairs do better and construct compound ideas than working alone. In this theory group learning is initiated with looking into the cognitive development of the individual. Explain some of the difficulties relating to research into cognitive development Studies have shown that parents use these theories to decide what to purchase in order to support the growth of their child. In the academic purpose teachers also use these theories to determine which syllabus will be suitable for the students. Recent studies have shown that children having the same grade and being in the same age perform their tasks differently in basic mathematical fluency. The stage of the cognitive development differs from person to person and it affects and impacts on how someone reflects on everything. As this theory of Piagets was applauded it was criticized also (Jeltova, 2004). It was found that development do not progress in a smooth way as his theory says. It was found that children are able to learn concepts and has the capability to do complex reasoning that is supposed to be more advanced cases. This theory is of domain general which predicts that maturation occurs simultaneously across different domain of knowledge. The theorist in this case did not ta ke into account the changeability in the performance of a child (Shabani, Khatib and Ebadi, 2010). Vygotskys theory is a modern application of reciprocal teaching which is used to perk up the ability of the students to learn from the text. According to this theory, the students and the teachers work together in learning the four key elements of questioning, clarifying, summarizing and predicting, by way of which the teachers time is lessened. Vygotsky is pertinent to concepts like apprenticeship and scaffolding where a teacher is an adult who helps to structure and arrange a task. This theory well accepted both by parents and teachers was also criticized. Vygotsky did not obtain equal level of strong scrutiny like Piaget due to the lengthy process. This theory does not provide particular hypothesis making repudiation difficult if not impossible. It was also stated that Vygotskys ideas were not culturally widespread but an alternative concepts of scaffolding which was dependent on verbal instruction. This may not be equal in all cultures in the learning process. In some cases pract ice and observation may be more effective (Spinath and Spinath, 2005 References: Aguiar, N. and Taylor, M. (2015).
